SAN ANTONIO — We have seen a rash of cluster mailbox thefts in San Antonio and now it appears that City Council may be about to do something about it.

After nearly a year, one councilmember’s proposal is moving forward.

The Public Safety Committee will hear Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito’s proposal Tuesday afternoon and see if they want to move forward with making it a reality.

Thefts at cluster mailboxes have become such a problem, it’s almost common place.

Just last month, two men were arrested accused of swiping mail from cluster mailboxes in Garden Ridge.

Aldrete-Gavito has a twofold plan, which adds additional streetlights to the area of the cluster mailboxes, and creates a task force, made up of stakeholders, including USPS, developers, council, and others.
