Heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the New York Knicks find themselves occupying what has been relatively unfamiliar territory to them throughout the 21st century.
Along with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Knicks are the de facto co-favorites to emerge out of the Eastern Conference. Following blockbuster trades for All-Defensive swingman Mikal Bridges and All-Star power forward/center Karl-Anthony Towns during the 2024 offseason, the Knicks were expected to at least be a part of the contender conversation, along with the then-reigning champion Boston Celtics, Cleveland, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers (yes, really) and perhaps the Indiana Pacers (who were being a bit slept-on at the time) and Miami Heat.
