Star Wars is finally moving on from the sequel trilogy, with the first story set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker coming out today. The sequel trilogy didn't quite play out how Lucasfilm hoped; Forbes recently estimated that The Rise of Skywalker only made a profit of $48.3m, and the movie failed to receive critical acclaim.

All this means Lucasfilm has struggled to decide what comes next . Still, the last few years have shown a willingness to move beyond the sequels; Daisy Ridley is booked to return in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy 's New Jedi Order movie, while Simon Kinberg is writing a trilogy said to be the key to the future.

Today, then, is a milestone for Star Wars ; the first story set after The Rise of Skywalker has released, showing the timeline move on at last.
