COLUMBUS (WXIX) - High school athletes in Ohio can now profit from their name, image and likeness after a Franklin County judge’s decision.

The case stems from a junior at Wayne High School in Huber Heights. Jamier Brown is the top wide receiver prospect for the class of 2027 and committed to Ohio State University.

His mother and attorneys say he’s missed out on over $100,000 in potential NIL deals.

Ohio is one of six states that don’t allow high school athletes to accept payments, including Indiana and Michigan.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors is set to vote on another NIL proposal in May, but will likely vote sooner after the ruling.

An OHSAA spokesperson says communications on the next steps for schools will come out Tuesday.
