Enock Kanzingeni Chihana has officially taken the oath of office as the Second Vice President of the Republic of Malawi.

The oath was administered by the Deputy Chief Justice, Lovemore Chikopa, during a swearing-in ceremony held at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.

Chihana becomes only the second person in Malawi’s history to occupy this position the first being his late father, Chakufwa Chihana, who also served as the country’s Second Vice President during the Bakili Muluzi administration.

Before the September 16 General Election, Chihana’s party, the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), entered into an electoral alliance with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which retained power in the polls.
