The Alberta government’s recent proposal for an oil pipeline to the northwest coast has been met with opposition — primarily from B.C. Premier David Eby. I want to help set the record straight. Alberta’s government isn’t spending billions of taxpayer dollars to build a pipeline. They are merely paving a pathway for industry to invest in British Columbia which will significantly boost Canada’s GDP.

The opposition is no surprise. After watching the blitz of media from those who oppose the project versus those who feel the conversation must continue, I felt it necessary to offer the public some background information. While leaders from coastal First Nations have expressed concerns, few remember how the tanker ban came to be — or that it was never truly endorsed by Indigenous communities.
