Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Secretary of State Cole Jester have been sued a second time over the governor’s plan to hold special elections on June 9 to fill two legislative vacancies.

The suit, which was filed Tuesday morning in Pulaski County Circuit Court, seeks a court order compelling the governor and secretary of state to hold a special election to fill House District 70 no later than March 3, 2026.

House District 70 became vacant on Oct. 1 when Rep. Carlton Wing (R-North Little Rock) resigned to become head of Arkansas PBS. State law says the governor must schedule a special election to fill a seat in the House or Senate within 150 days of a vacancy, unless it would be “impractical or unduly burdensome.”
