LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - If you drove by Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport around 10 A.M. on October 21, you might have seen or heard emergency crews responding to something. Thankfully, it was just a practice run, preparing officials for a real emergency.
The full-scale emergency drill is held every three years, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. Airport officials said they’ve been planning for the simulation for over a year. This simulation was an overturned aircraft on the runway in snowy conditions.
While it was a controlled simulation, emergency crews who participated in the drill found out in real time what kind of emergency it was.
