EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Signs across East Haven read “Stop Tweed Expansion,” and the future of Tweed New Haven Airport has emerged as a major issue in the East Haven mayoral race as early voting gets underway at East Haven Town Hall.

Democratic incumbent Joe Carfora is seeking his fourth two-year term against Republican challenger Anthony Camposano. For many voters, the airport’s proposed expansion represents a major sticking point with Election Day just two weeks away.

The airport, which has seen tremendous growth with travelers over the last few years, sits in both New Haven and East Haven. A proposal calls for building a new larger terminal on the East Haven side.
