BEAUMONT, Texas — A new semi-professional baseball team is coming to Southeast Texas. The Beaumont Oil Barons will take to the diamond at Lamar University’s Vincent Beck Stadium for home games this season.

The team allows independent athletes to play alongside college players, helping them stay sharp during the off-season. Some hope it’s a step toward the pros.

The new team is an extension of the Mid-America League, which launched in 2024. The Oil Barons will face teams from Abilene, Texarkana, and Joplin, Missouri.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring summer baseball back to the community,” said Nick Weinsborn, commissioner for the Mid-America League.

Mike Marek, the team’s general manager, said Beaumont offers a promising market for the league’s expansion.
