T he India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) has issued a red alert for three districts in Kerala : Malappuram, Palakkad and Idukki. In Tamil Nadu , a red alert has been issued for Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts, and the Puducherry and Karaikal regions. Malappuram, Palakkad and Idukki district administrations have declared a holiday for educational institutions in their respective districts.

All educational institutions have been declared shut in: Puducherry and Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu.
