EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Registrar of Voters is issuing an urgent alert to voters about a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) policy that could jeopardize the validity of ballots mailed on Election Day. The warning has prompted officials to strongly encourage the use of secure ballot drop boxes and other in-person return methods for the November 4, 2025, election.

The concern stems from a recent USPS change regarding mail processing. Mail deposited at post offices or collection boxes located more than 50 miles from a regional processing hub may not receive a postmark until the following day. For Imperial County voters, this means a ballot mailed on Tuesday, November 4th, could potentially receive a November 5th postmark.
