New Delhi, Oct 22: The pipping ceremony of Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, who was conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Army, was held on Wednesday in New Delhi, marking another significant milestone in the decorated athlete’s career. The ceremony was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.
According to The Gazette of India, Chopra’s appointment as honorary Lt. Colonel took effect on April 16, 2025. The Indian javelin ace had joined the Army as a junior commissioned officer in the rank of Naib Subedar on August 26, 2016.
