New Delhi: The government has officially moved to regulate deepfakes and AI-generated content, marking one of the most significant policy interventions in the digital era. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has proposed amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, bringing “synthetically generated information”, including AI-generated audio, video and images, firmly within the legal framework.
