BOSTON — Brad Marchand made an emotional return to TD Garden on Tuesday for the first time since being traded to the Panthers by the Bruins in March.

A tribute video was shown in the first period that was followed by a loud and long ovation from the crowd. Marchand cried as he saluted those in attendance.

David Pastrnak , who played with Marchand for 11 seasons, knew the tribute was coming, but wasn’t expecting it to be as emotional as it was.

“Really caught me by surprise,” he said after Tuesday’s game between Boston and Florida. “It was good to see him back at the Garden. But at the same time, I think it was a little bit more emotional than what I expected. (It was) well-deserved. We know the way he feels about Boston and the city and he raised his family here.
