Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that while British and French colonialism are widely discussed in historical narratives, the role of "political Islam", which he claimed inflicted the "greatest blow" to Sanatan Dharma, remains largely ignored.

Addressing the 'Vichar-Parivar Kutumb Sneh Milan' and 'Deepotsav Se Rashtrotsav' programmes in Gorakhpur, organised to mark the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Adityanath invoked historical figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Maharana Pratap, and Maharana Sanga as warriors who fought against what he termed as “political Islam.”

"Our ancestors waged major struggles against political Islam, yet this aspect of history remains largely overlooked," the chief minister said.
