A mother is mourning her son who was shot on her birthday in a double-shooting that also left her expectant daughter injured.

City police said officers were called around 10:27 p.m. Monday to the 1000 block of Cameron Road in Northeast Baltimore, across from the former Chinquapin Middle School grounds, where shattered glass remains at the scene of the shooting.

WBAL-TV 11 News has learned that Stephen Phillips, 35, and his 31-year-old sister were shot after someone fired into their car.

“Somebody ambushed them, and they took my son away from me on my 55th birthday,” Phillips’ mother, Patricia Phillips, told WBAL-TV 11 News.

Stephen Phillips died at a hospital while his sister was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
