The ongoing dispute over the Asia Cup trophy is intensifying as PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi demands to personally present the trophy to India at a ceremony in Dubai on November 10. This request comes ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting next month, highlighting the tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In a firm email to the BCCI, Naqvi proposed an official event where representatives from the BCCI and available Indian players could receive the trophy from him as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He stated, "If you want the trophy, we can hold a ceremony where you can receive it." Naqvi emphasized that the trophy rightfully belongs to the Indian cricket team and is being held in trust until a BCCI official and participating players can collect it. He added, "Such collection would, of course, be accompanied with much fanfare and coverage, as there should be no deviation from established practices and no precedent should be set that undermines the spirit of the game we all love."

The controversy began after the Indian team refused to accept their winners’ medals and the trophy following their victory in the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final on September 29 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Indian players' boycott stemmed from tensions with the ACC, particularly regarding receiving the trophy from Naqvi, who also leads the PCB.

During the delayed post-match presentation, only a few Indian players, including Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Tilak Varma, accepted individual performance awards. Pakistan's captain Salman Ali Agha collected the runners-up cheque. Kuldeep was recognized as the tournament's top wicket-taker, while Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 314 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.85. However, the ceremony concluded without India lifting the winner’s trophy, with presenter Simon Doull announcing, "I have been informed by the ACC that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. That concludes the post-match presentation."

As the BCCI has not yet publicly responded to Naqvi's proposal, the cricketing community is keenly watching whether the planned trophy handover will proceed or if the Asia Cup trophy will continue to represent the ongoing rift between the two boards.
