GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenville community is coming together to celebrate the retirement for a 102-year-old man.

Bill Quarles has worked at Del Thomsen Associates for more than 40 years as a file account keeper. He was a student at Clemson University before joining the army in 1942 and was a B-24 pilot.

FOX Carolina asked Quarles why he wanted to keep working well into the triple digits.

“I need to keep busy,” Quarles said. “I need to be around people. I don’t want to sit back in the corner and just die away.”

Quarles said he plans to do crossword puzzles and Cryptoquote puzzles to keep himself busy while in retirement.
