For animal rescuers, encountering dogs who shy away from people is a common and heartbreaking reality. Many of these strays carry the emotional weight of past mistreatment, leaving them wary of human contact and unsure if they can ever feel safe again.

In some cases, dogs raised without much exposure to people may react out of unfamiliarity. But more often, their fear is rooted in neglect, abandonment, or trauma.
