FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — The man accused of attacking former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan is due back in court on Wednesday.
Coree Gonzales, 31, is being detained in connection with the stabbing after he assaulted four police officers, leading to his arrest. He was charged with four counts of assault and battery on a police officer and arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
A not guilty plea was entered on Gonzales’ behalf, and he’s being held without bail pending a mental health hearing.
Officers were called to a reported stabbing on Hartwell Street around 5 p.m. Monday, right near the Cosmopolitan Dispensary, which Flanagan has ownership in.
Newly released surveillance video shows Flanagan walking on the sidewalk when Gonzales comes up from behind him and stabs him multiple times.
