Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, has stated that his father is nearing the end of his political career and should mentor Satish Jarkiholi to lead the Congress party. His comments come as speculation grows about a potential leadership change in the state, particularly as the Congress government approaches the halfway mark of its five-year term in November, a period some are calling the "November revolution."
At an event in Kappalaguddi village, Yathindra said, "My father is in the final stages of his political career. Satish Jarkiholi must take the Congress forward." He emphasized the need for a leader with strong ideology and progressive values, suggesting that Jarkiholi fits this description.
Despite these remarks, Siddaramaiah has consistently asserted that he will complete his full term as Chief Minister. He stated, "I will remain Chief Minister for the full five-year term," and has received support from many MLAs who believe he should continue in office. Yathindra also reinforced this, saying, "CM Siddaramaiah will remain in office for five years. He enjoys full support from MLAs. If there was any discontent, legislators would have approached the high command."
The backdrop to this discussion includes ongoing debates about a power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Supporters of Shivakumar have been vocal about their desire for him to take over as Chief Minister, citing his role in the party's recent electoral success. However, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have publicly denied any imminent leadership change.
Political analysts suggest that Yathindra's comments may be a strategic move to assert the Siddaramaiah camp's influence within the party. Meanwhile, Congress leaders, including Randeep Singh Surjewala, have dismissed rumors of a rift within the Karnataka unit, maintaining that the party is united under Siddaramaiah's leadership.
As the political landscape evolves, the focus remains on whether Siddaramaiah will indeed complete his term or if a leadership transition will occur in the coming months.
