FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) is responding to a fire at the former Village Woods Middle School property on the city’s southeast side Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to 2700 E Maple Grove Avenue around 8:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire.

Department officials say crews were able to get the fire under control within about 30 minutes. At this time, they are working to get the smoke out of the building.

It is unknown what caused the fire and if any injuries have been reported.

The vacant school building is now owned by the Smith Academy for Excellence, a charter school located at 1819 Reservation Drive.
