A spokesperson for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has responded to calls from the public to lower the UK energy price cap.

Earlier this month, experts issued a warning to households all over the country that a predicted January price drop will be 'short lived' and followed by a £100 hike in April.

At the end of September, Ofgem announced a 2 per cent rise in gas and electricity prices for millions of people in England, Scotland and Wales .

Energy consultancy firm, Cornwall Insight , previously predicted that the price cap will dip on January 1, 2026 - by £30 from the current level of £1,755 to £1,725.

Another increase is then expected three months later, with bills increasing for an average household by around £100.
