The City of Surrey is pushing ahead with a vision to create a new “downtown” hub that would include an entertainment district featuring a 10,000-seat arena for sporting events and concerts, as well as an interactive art museum, hotels and other businesses.
The district would be situated just north of city hall on city-owned land near the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, which is also being expanded. As of Tuesday, however, the city wasn’t able to provide precise locations for each facet of the new district or say how the new developments might impact existing community facilities, including a B.C. Lions’ practice field nearby.
