HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston City Council did not vote on Wednesday on an item to spend $16 million to open what they're calling a homeless "superhub."

That agenda item was tagged by Councilman Mario Castillo, which essentially translates to the vote being delayed.

City council was set to vote on the proposal last week, but delayed it after some pushback from the community.

The matter is scheduled to return to City Council's agenda next Wednesday. If approved, the city aims to open the shelter in the first quarter of 2026.

The proposed homeless center would be located along Emancipation Avenue, just east of downtown near Shell Stadium.
