Prince Andrew announced on Friday that he will no longer be using his Duke of York title following what he described as a “discussion with the King.” Buckingham Palace has long been under pressure to deal with Andrew’s links to accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein , and while the disgraced royal has strenuously denied any allegations made against him, he said in a statement that he made the decision to “put my family and country first.”

It is worth noting that Prince Andrew is still technically the Duke of York. To officially strip him of the title would require an Act of Parliament, which would itself require the courts to have found him guilty of a crime.
