MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Madison Police Department officer lost consciousness after being slammed to the ground by a suspect, the police department reported Wednesday.

MPD officers reported responding around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to the Festival Foods, on the 800 block of East Washington Avenue. Employees told police a man was inside the store and threatening staff.

Officers found the suspect in the Wine and Spirits section, and said he was allegedly aggressive and resisted officers.

Police said they used a taser on the suspect, Kaleb Kelly, but it did not work.

Kelly allegedly pushed an officer to the ground, which resulted in an “officer down” call on police radios. This call prompted a larger MPD response and for officers to be brought in from nearby departments.
