Fresno police revealed the name of the suspect, a former Madera County sheriff’s deputy, who shot himself with a police officer’s gun at Community Regional Medical Center on Monday.

The department’s Organized Retail Theft Tactical Team contacted Isaac Hare, 32, earlier that day about a grand theft case at the Best Buy in Fresno on Oct. 11, according to a Fresno police news release.

Police also suspected Hare of impersonating an officer at the same store. Investigators used a photograph of the vehicle he had driven to help identify him.

Hare agreed to meet detectives at the Northwest Policing District Substation, where he began resisting arrest. As officers tried to handcuff him, they tased him four times before subduing him. Police found a loaded, concealed firearm in his bag.
