PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Opening statements in the Sean Grayson murder trial got underway at the Peoria County Courthouse Wednesday morning.
25 News reports the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy was seen wearing an all-black suit and glasses as he entered the courtroom. The family of Sonya Massey was also present.
Grayson is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing Massey in her Springfield home on July 6, 2024.
Sangamon County Chief Judge Ryan Cadigan addressed the audience before the jury was brought into the courtroom, telling them not to distract the jury during proceedings.
Once the jury entered the courtroom, Cadigan instructed them to not research during the trial or communicate with others about the case.
