YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- It was two years ago Wednesday that prosecutors told a jury in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court that 7-year-old De'Vonte Driver and his 9-year-old brother were watching "Winnie the Pooh" on a Sunday morning when they couldn't change the channel, so they went to grab some batteries for the remote on the mantel behind the television.
Next to the batteries was a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun.
The boys began playing with the gun until it went off, no more than 3 feet away from the 56-pound De'Vonte. The bullet fired from the gun hit De'Vonte in the chest. It travelled left and right, doing damage to his lung, aorta and spine before exiting his back.
Death took no more than a minute.
