The Millet Lightning faced off against the NorAlta Jr. C Hockey League’s top team, the Edmonton Mavericks, Friday night, skating to a 3-1 loss at the Millet Agriplex.

The Mavericks opened the scoring in the dying seconds of the first period and it wasn’t until late in the second that Edmonton scored again. Article content Article content

With 20 seconds left in the game, the Lightning’s Dominick Gravell broke the Maverick goalie’s shut-out to cut the lead in half, but a late answer, with just 12 seconds left saw the Mavericks score one more time.

The Lightning’s next game is a mid-week match-up Thursday in Edmonton against the Jr. Braves in the first of back-to-back games. The team will be back on home ice Friday for a tilt against the Beaumont Buccaneers starting at 8:15 p.m.
