ARLINGTON, Wis. — Two men died following a fiery crash in the Town of Arlington Tuesday afternoon, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office reported.

The county's dispatch center received numerous 911 calls around 3 p.m. regarding a two-vehicle crash on Wibu Road near Kampen Road. Callers reported "significant damage" to the vehicles and that the occupants were trapped. One of the vehicles was reported to have caught fire.

A sheriff's deputy arrived within two minutes of the initial 911 call and attempted to extricate the driver of the vehicle on fire and extinguish the flames. However, due to the vehicle's damage and the rapid spread of the fire, the Arlington Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.

Both drivers succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
