WAUTOMA, Wis. -- A man who was found dead in a home following a standoff with law enforcement in rural Wautoma was likely hit by an officer's gunshots and did not take his own life, state investigators said Wednesday.
The standoff began at around 5:25 p.m. on Oct. 16 at a home near the intersection of State Road 73 and County Road O in the Town of Wautoma. Waushara County Sheriff's Deputy Alex Midthun and a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper were responding to a report of domestic violence.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, 51-year-old Timothy Lehman was standing outside the home when law enforcement arrived then ran inside. He then shot at Midthun, who returned fire.
