Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is making changes to game schedules for its NHL and NBA teams to allow fans to support the Toronto Blue Jays during the World Series. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors will shift their game times this weekend and next week to accommodate the Blue Jays' games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball's championship series.
Keith Pelley, president and CEO of MLSE, stated, "Toronto sports fans are undeniably some of the most passionate fans in the world, and we are proud to have the city’s teams come together and give these fans an opportunity to experience a significant moment in our city’s and nation’s history."
The Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto will host Games 1 and 2 of the World Series on Friday and Saturday, both scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET. In response, the Raptors have moved their home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, the Maple Leafs will now face the Buffalo Sabres at 5 p.m. on Saturday, instead of the originally planned 7 p.m. start.
Additionally, the Maple Leafs have adjusted the start time for their game against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday to 6 p.m. The Raptors will also host the Houston Rockets at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Pelley noted the complexity of these changes, saying, "Each of these game time changes are quite complicated and represent the cooperation of many stakeholders, including the respective leagues, coaches and players of the Leafs, Raptors and opposing teams and broadcasters. We are grateful to them all for their assistance as we work to make this a very special moment for Toronto fans as we come together to support the Blue Jays."
After their games, both the Maple Leafs and Raptors will show the World Series games on the videoboard at Scotiabank Arena. Meanwhile, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will play their regular-season finale against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday at 7 p.m. CFL fans at the game will receive updates on the World Series opener, with live coverage available on screens throughout Hamilton Stadium. The full broadcast will be shown on the main videoboard after the game concludes.
