SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The National Parks Service is planning a prescribed fire over the next several days near Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
According to a news release, NPS is planning the burn if conditions are favorable for 95 acres known as the Starling Basin.
The location of the burn is west and south of Highway 244, within the memorial’s boundary.
“For safety, some areas of the park may be temporarily closed during the operation. Smoke will be visible in the area, and short-term smoke impacts are possible along Highway 244 and in nearby communities,” Mount Rushmore National Memorial said in a social media post.
Mount Rushmore is impacted by the current federal government shutdown.
