An 80-year-old Rochester man died Tuesday night in a crash that involved a deer on Route 19 in Genesee County, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred on Route 19 in Pavilion, just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21. A northbound sport utility vehicle struck a deer that entered the road causing the animal to become airborne before is smashed into the windshield of a southbound pickup driven by Michael Vaccaro, 80, of Rochester, deputies said.

Vaccaro's truck left the road came to rest in a ditch and brush. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

The SUV driver - a 68-year-old Pavilion woman - and others in her vehicle were not injured in the crash, deputies said.

Deputies are investigating the fatal crash.
