When New York Jets owner Woody Johnson ripped into quarterback Justin Fields this week, he probably couldn't have predicted how quickly it would come back to haunt him.

After Johnson blasted Fields to reporters on Tuesday ("If we can just complete a pass, it would look good"), backup New York quarterback Tyrod Taylor popped up on the injury report with a knee ailment. He is day-to-day right now and no lock to be available for the next game.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn downplayed Johnson's critical comments but was noncommittal on who would start for New York against the Cincinnati Bengals on the road on Sunday.

If you're Fields, would you want to start for a team whose owner just blamed you for your team's struggles and said you can't complete a single pass? If Taylor can't go, the Jets will be in incredibly awkward spot in starting the guy who the owner just insulted to the media. That's a bad look and a tough spot for Fields to be in right now.

Unless the Jets want to call up rookie quarterback Brady Cook off the practice squad to play on Sunday, Fields may be New York's best option. We imagine Johnson will be a little antsy if Fields plays and succeeds against Cincinnati.
