As the U.S. government shutdown stretches into its third week, Gov. Jeff Landry is warning Louisianans who rely on food stamps that they will stop receiving benefits on Nov. 1 if it continues.

According to the governor, hundreds of thousands of Louisianans depend on the federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides monthly food assistance to low-income households.

The Louisiana Department of Health has begun notifying SNAP recipients and is distributing notices for grocery retailers to post at entrances, letting customers know the funds will be unavailable.
