IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two people from McDowell County are accused of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of fiber optic cables and copper wires in Iredell County, deputies say.
On October 20, Deputy J. Betts with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office responded to Hickory Highway after an AT&T technician reported a temporary service outage in the area.
The technician received an alarm for a cell tower outage and allegedly witnessed a man loading large sections of cable into the truck of a Toyota Corolla. The tech took photos of the vehicle and determined that around 300 feet of fiber optic cable and 300 feet of copper wire were stolen.
The stolen items are valued at approximately $4,500.
Deputy Betts identified the vehicle's owner as Afton McKenzie Rash, 43, of Old For
