GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) — Classrooms across Berkeley County were filled with orange on Wednesday as students took part in Unity Day, a national event that promotes kindness, respect, and inclusion.
At Marrington Elementary School, teachers and staff used the day to help students understand what it means to be kind and how to stand up for others. Storytime and classroom discussions focused on using words to solve problems, showing empathy, and making sure everyone feels included.
Principal Jennifer Thielmann led one of those readings, sharing a story about standing up to unkind behavior and encouraging students to use their words instead of actions when someone is not being nice. She said it is a simple but powerful lesson that aligns perfectly with the goal of Unity Day.
