HALLIDAY, N.D. — The newest public library in the state of North Dakota has opened its doors.
This month, after a long process of petitioning, renovating the space and collecting books, the Halliday Public Library finally began welcoming community members. Housed at the old site of Halliday Public School, the library has largely become a reality through the efforts of Halliday resident Katlyn Baker.
Halliday High School closed its doors in 2013 and the elementary school followed suit in 2022, both due to low enrollment and consolidation with Killdeer Public Schools. According to Baker, the city bought back the building in hopes of converting it for community use. Baker saw an opportunity to open a public library.
From the outside, it may seem like Halliday is not a growing community. Li
