An Amityville man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly slashing a relative’s neck and holding another captive at knifepoint, prosecutors said.

Angelo Andrade, 49, was indicted on attempted murder and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Investigators determined that Andrade went to a relative’s home in Amityville on Sunday, Sept. 21. During a conversation, he allegedly grabbed the man from behind and cut his neck with a knife, seriously injuring him, prosecutors said.

Andrade then turned on a second relative, holding her at knifepoint and threatening to hurt her, investigators said. Both victims managed to escape and called police.

The injured man was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was hospitalized and received a blood transfusion.

Police arrested Andrade near the scene shortly after the attack. Following his arraignment Tuesday, he was jailed on a $750,000 bond.

If convicted of the top charge, Andrade faces up to 25 years in prison.

“These alleged acts of violence could have easily resulted in death,” said Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney. “We take all acts of violence seriously and will prosecute vigorously.”
