BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — Lexington County School District Three officials say an investigation is underway after an unloaded handgun was found in a student’s book bag at Batesburg-Leesville Primary School on Tuesday, October 21.
According to a message sent to faculty and staff Wednesday morning, school administrators received a report that a student may have had a weapon. The school’s administrators and School Resource Officer acted quickly, confirming that the student did indeed have an unloaded handgun in their backpack. No ammunition was found, and officials said they do not believe the student made any direct threats toward the school or other students.
In a statement to faculty and staff, Lexington Three said that the school remains safe and is operating on its regular schedule.
