The program offering help for low-income homeowners to pay for energy costs this winter has been delayed by one month because of the federal government shutdown.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services released a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 22 warning homeowners that they are delaying the opening of this year's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program until Dec. 3, 2025.

DHS explained that they have not gotten the federal funds they need for LIHEAP's 2025-2026 season because of the federal shutdown.

The program was originally scheduled to open on Nov. 3, 2025.

The service is important for people who need assistance for utility costs during the winter months.
