An 11-year-old boy with autism who died tragically when a trailer went up in flames in Oshawa last weekend was the “light” of his mother’s life, according to an online fundraiser.
Durham Regional Police say emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire at a home on Elgin St. W. — west of Park Rd. N. — around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.
“They arrived on scene within three minutes of the call and found a trailer fully engulfed in flames,” acting Staff-Sgt. Joanne McCabe told reporters at the scene that day.

The two adults survived the fire.
Two firefighters also suffered minor burns battling the blaze.
