SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Springfield Art Museum leaders are pursuing private grant options for their expansion project after government funding dried up.

The museum plans to use private grants to help pay for the next construction phase, which will include lobby improvements, education space, and galleries. This phase carries an expected cost of just over $37 million.

Museum leaders hope to secure $15 million from a half-cent sales tax in 2027 and another $18.5 million in 2028. The museum has already received nearly $4 million in private donations.

Officials aim to complete much of the work by 2028, the museum’s 100th anniversary.
