President Donald Trump has nominated two prominent Alabamians to be the federal government’s top prosecutors for the state.
On Wednesday, the White House named Thomas Govan, Jr. to serve as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama and Phil Williams, Jr. to serve as United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. Each nomination is for a four-year term and now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
Govan is a career prosecutor who has served as chief of the Criminal Trials Division in the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. He previously worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Middle District and is also an officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve JAG Corps. In 2024, he ran for statewide for Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
Williams, a former Alabama
