ORRINGTON, Maine (WABI) - A historic Orrington plant received a second Notice of Violation from the Maine Department of Environmental Protections.
The Mallinckrodt facility operated from 1967 to 2000, producing chlorine and pesticide products right off the Penobscot River.
In a press release, the Maine DEP says that the notice comes as a result of a “lack of meaningful progress” regarding the former facility.
The site has been under remediation orders since 2008 and while progress has been made, large areas of contaminated soil remain.
The Maine DEP stated that they expect Mallinckrodt to immediately resume efforts to accomplish site remediation.
