The Trump administration plans to announce new sanctions on Russia as U.S.-led efforts to end the war in Ukraine falter and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pleads for additional military aid, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday.
“We are going to announce either after the close this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning a substantial pickup in Russia sanctions,” Bessent told reporters at the White House.
His remarks came as NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte visited Washington for talks and prepared to meet President Donald Trump later in the day.
